The largest facility in the hydraulics laboratory is the tilting flume. With a width of 5m and flow rates up to 1 m/s at 300 mm depth the flume can be tilted to 10 degrees. It has been fitted with a computer controlled variable wave producer.
It is currently being used as the test base and home for work on the 'Manchester Bobber' a novel wave energy device.
Other standard flumes are used for both teaching and project work including flow past obstacles.
