Dissertation

When do I do my dissertation?

Whether you are a full-time or part-time student, you are required to undertake and successfully complete some dissertation-related work before commencing the main dissertation.

The MACE 60050 Project Management Research Methods unit includes this preliminary work. At the beginning of Semester 2 in February and in year 2 of study for part-time students, you will have to bid for your dissertation title choice, based on a list of around 200 titles or apply to do a topic proposed by yourself. When this process is completed you will be allocated an appropriate dissertation supervisor. You will then need to complete a piece of coursework based around your dissertation title. This coursework is part of the assessed taught element of the programme, that is, the 8 units to be completed by June.

Students will be expected to maintain regular contact with their dissertation supervisor and attend meetings in person as and when arranged by the supervisor over the summer beak in June – September. Although you may travel away from Manchester for a short holiday or to collect data, you are strongly advised to stay in Manchester over the summer. You must also be in Manchester for the submission of your dissertation in September.
