About the Management of Projects (MoP) Programme

FAQ About the programme

What is the difference between the 4 route ways in the MSc Management of Projects programme?

The overarching programme is MSc Management of Projects (MoP). There are 4 route ways that are embedded in this over arching programme, namely:

Your choice of 3 option units (besides the 5 core ones) will determine your route way. Each of the four route ways include an element which is related to a specific area. Your choice of route way will depend on which industry you want to build your career in or the interests you have. The main distinction besides the option units, then comes when you work on your dissertation. The process of determining your dissertation topic area in Semester 2 is based on a list of around 200 titles relevant to the route ways, or you can apply to undertake one of your own. See Example Programme Structure.

Please identify correctly in your online application, the route way you wish to apply for.

The School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering (part of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Science) does not offer any sponsorship or scholarship for the programme. Students should have enough funds to pay the 3 instalments of tuition fees when they register for the course. The instalments are due in October, January and April. The University reserves the right to withdraw students from programmes if they fail to make the payments.

However, the University offers significant funding for postgraduate taught courses every year for UK, EU and international students for assistance with something specific such as tuition fees, living expenses or travel costs.

How many students will there be on the programme?
Typically there will be in the order of 200 full-time students and 20 part-time students of the programme. Each student will be assigned a Personal Tutor in the first few weeks of Semester 1 and, later in the year, a Dissertation Supervisor in Semester 2. Class representatives will also be elected in September so that they can bring any concerns of the students to the attention of the academic and administrative staff.

What are my job prospects after graduating from the programme?
The members of Academic Staff are not in a position to comment on job prospects outside the UK for which students will have to do their own research on employment requirements.

The University has a customer-focused Careers Service open to all students. This Careers Service provides advice on career options; finding jobs; CVs, applications and interviews. You can seek advice from them on employment in the UK, and discuss work permit issues and specific careers for international students. You can also keep up to date with industry trends by visiting the Manchester Postgraduate Careers blog.
