In BS5268-4-2, the fire resistance of a timber framed wall or joisted floor construction is considered to be the sum of the contribution of its various components, studs and linings, to the stability, integrity and insulation performance of the whole element. A series of 11 tables has been compiled to give the contribution indices of the components to its fire resistance up to 1 hour. For instance, in accordance with Table 1, a single leaf wall made from 47mm studs at 600 c/c and plasterboards will have a fire resistance of 30 min for stability, integrity and insulation as shown in the above figure.
