Light timber construction

For light timber construction including walls and floors, protection from linings is required. The linings can be made from plasterboard, hardboard, wood chipboard, plywood and expanded steel lath. Care is required in ensuring the quality of fixings of the protecting lining to the supporting timber on site. BS5268-4-2 provides a calculation method for determining the fire resistance of timber framed walls or floors based on the tabular data derived from the fire tests carried out in the UK over many years.
