I gave lessons on Theory of Structures in University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) for more than 40 years. After that I am studying problems of Structural Safety from 20 years, publishing papers and giving postgraduate courses.
Nowadays I think Structural Engineering must be taugth as Systems Engineering. With PARTS carefully choiced and joined to make a WHOLE that is capable of realising a preestablished FUNCTION.
This should be the subject of the first lesson.
Dont you think? Otherwise students will be studying they ignore what engineering really is.Perhaps they think wrongly, an engineer is a scientist.
I will be grateful to receive comments on this idea.

Better explanation for natural phenomena in SE through "concept", "model" and "practical example". I hope to get more and more knowledge in future.

Your choice of models & examples provides and demonstrates, in simple form, good structural concepts which are sometimes difficult to grasp as there is a tendency by some to rely solely on number crunching methods. I am a self employed mature student working towards CM and these concepts will help me to broaden my knowledge and understanding in this field and where experienced qualified engineers fail to provide adequate teaching facilities in house or are reluctant to do.

It would be useful if the information could be downloaded free of charge to students.
