Development of a more accurate and efficient predictive capability for a range of aerospace applications including: active sound control, aeroacoustics of rotor/stator interaction, centrifugal compressor performance / efficiency / surge, complex and unsteady flows, flight mechanics of rotary-wing aircraft, flow separation control, non-linear aeroelastic behaviour , aeroelastic uncertainty bounds for composite aircraft, loads prediction, hypersonic phenomena and interactions.
Improved aircraft environmental performance
Development of novel approaches for improved aircraft environmental performance, including: noise and engine emissions, adaptive aeroelastic structures for reduced drag and loads control, abatement of lean partially premixed combustor instabilities, flow control of UAVs, aircraft and turbomachinery, reduction of fan noise.
Innovative measurement and flow diagnostic tools
Development of innovative measurement and flow diagnostic tools, including: multi-functional smart coatings, high temperature applications, high speed photography and photonics, flows with combustion and/or shock waves.
