The medium-term research strategy (to 2015) will be concerned with:
- Modelling and designing whole buildings subject to extreme events.
- Development of 'Security Engineering' resulting in greater protection to society.
- Development of new robust structural systems.
- Functional modelling of 'systems of systems' for reliability and risk management in design.
- Exploration of generic reliability principles for bio- and nano- scale systems.
- The influence of cognitive style on concept design
- The use of interactive 'needs analysis' and 'concept generation' activities in design.
- Human-structure interaction - a combination of body biodynamics and structural dynamics
