Facilities
The following experimental/computational research facilities are available:
- Nuclear Graphite Laboratory capable of handling low active material
- Scanning Electron Microscope - for investigation of irradiated graphite
- Tensile testing machines
- Extreme loading facilities - impact, explosions and fire
- In addition the Nuclear Graphite Research Group has full access to the facilities in the School of Material
- Finite Element software ABAQUS for structure mechanics, WIMS/MCBEND for neutronics and heat genertation
- Major CFD software such as code_Saturne (EDF), STAR-CD (CD Adapco)
- A 76 CPU parallel Linux cluster dedicated to LES applications to reactor thermal - hydraulics (KNOO EPSRC project)
