Facilities
- A range of standard ballscrew and hydraulic testing machines;
- ESH, 10kN, servo hydraulic high frequency fatigue testing machines
- A range of drop hammers up to impact velocity of 10m/s, impactor mass of 150kg and impact energy of 8kJ
- Single stage, high pressure gas gun facility (23mm bore), which can be used as SHPB system for material dynamic property test or as a projectile launcher for penetration/perforation tests within impact velocity range of 50-500m/s
- Two stage light gas gun facility up to 2km/s velocity (need reassembling)
- Explosion containment vessels up to 30g TNT for spalling/scabbing tests
- Pulse photonic high speed digital camera up to 107pps and 10 pictures (total recording time is 9ms)
- Hadlands IMACON fast versatile electronic camera with streak optics accessory. (currently relies on Polaroid film output, the speed range is 5x10(4) to 2x10(7) pps for 20 pictures)
- Zimmer high speed (0.5MHz) electro optical non-contact displacement transducer system
- A range of transient digital data recorders (1MHz-1GHz) and oscilloscopes, multiple channels of strain gauge conditioning units and charge amplifier units
We have collaborative accesses to
- High-Speed Rotating Machinery Laboratory at Zhejiang University;
- State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science & Technology at Beijing Institute of Technology for high-speed and large calibre guns and explosion chambers (up to 5kg TNT)
