![]() |
The Group is a very active member of the SPH European Research Interest Community (SPHERIC) and organised the 5th International SPHERIC Workshop in 2010.
This group is part of the SPHysics consortium which releases the open-source SPH code, and also helps in the development of the EDF SPH code SPARTACUS. Recently, the first 2-day Short Course on SPH was held in Manchester, with more courses planned for the future. |
Links with industry
Our group has close links with industry
EDF, France
EDF is a major sponsor of work in the School of MACE at the University of Manchester. EDF has helped fund several students over the past few years (Arno Mayrhofer, Martin Ferrand, Eun-sug Lee, Réza Issa). The School also has excellent links and collaboration with Damien Violeau (formerly Chair of SPHERIC) helping to develop the EDF SPH code SPARTACUS for industrial application, such as spillway design, etc.
National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL)
The National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is a major industrial partner with the University of Manchester working very closely with the Dalton Research Centre. NNL are sponsoring one of our PhD students with a CASE award to use SPH to study the flows involved in nuclear decommissioning.
