I took part in the Undergraduate IMeche 2010 design challenge where I worked in a team of 4 to design and make a centrifugal pump which was capable of pumping water up a 2m pipe. It was a very enjoyable experience; which helped improve many of my basic skills; additionally allowing me to meet some interesting people in the engineering sector.

I was drawn to Manchester above other similarly ranked institutions for its ‘big city lifestyle’ and student friendly atmosphere. I have not been disappointed! There is always something to see and do in Manchester, and plenty to match the student budget.

I am a third year at the University of Manchester studying for a master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering. In the three years that I have been here I have found Manchester to be a great place to live and study. The city itself is ideal for students and the university is one of the best in the country.

The University itself has a great reputation. The course I am taking is very demanding, however satisfactory when the things I am learning are related to real life. I have just finished my dissertation which involved designing a standard measure for reducing spalling effect of concrete in fire.

The biggest decision I have had to make in my life so far is which university I should go to. I choose Manchester, simply because it offered the best overall experience. As a final year Meng Aerospace student, I have experienced 4 years of intensive learning with lecturer’s who instead of working at the fore front of industry, instead choose to share there vast knowledge with the next generation of engineers.
