Modelling and simulation research encompasses a wide range of study areas, and brings together staff and students working on a variety of projects in fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, materials and other applications.

Fluid flow modelling projects include the simulation of complex turbulent flows, and the development of models and methods to both represent the flow physics accurately and to deal efficiently with complex, and moving, geometries using conventional structured and unstructured grids, overlapping meshes, and meshless methods. Further applications include solid and structural modelling, and the development of coupled numerical methods for solving fluid-structure interaction problems.
