Palaeoclimatology and ceramics

RHX dating utilises a chemical reaction and therefore is a temperature dependant process.

This specialism addresses the development of palaeoclimatological data with significant emphasis on modelling the fluctuations in temperature over the entire Holocene epoch, last 12,000 years.

Research focus

There is ongoing research into the following specific applications:

  • high resolution modelling of temperature data over the last two millennia.
  • high fidelity geo-spatial models of world-wide past climate data.
  • investigations using iButtons into temperature profiles with depth on archaeological sites.
