Recruiting talent
As a Department, we prioritise our students’ employment prospects after they’ve finished studying with us. That’s why we extend an open invitation to all companies to engage with our students.
The University of Manchester is one of the most targeted universities by top graduate employers, and our Department specifically has more than 1,200 undergraduates and nearly 1,000 postgraduate students who benefit from an outstanding education experience.

Industrial Advisory Board
I'm a graduate of the Aerospace Engineering programme at the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering, and can offer first-hand endorsement of the relevance and quality of the learning methods which form the courses available. I’m looking forward to re-establishing meaningful links with the department and helping to improve the course.
Robin Kenna / Rolls Royce, Aerospace Division
I’ve come along [to the IAB] because we're really keen to access graduates with the right skills into our company over the next few years. Through the IAB we've found out a lot about the training and learning opportunities and have had the opportunity to shape the future content.
Lisa Marks / Leonardo Helicopters
Our Industrial Advisory Boards (IAB) meet twice yearly to review the quality and effectiveness of the degree programmes we offer to our students, and their valuable commitment underpins the relevance of our syllabuses.
The Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering's board comprises around 40 male and female engineering professionals from across the UK and beyond. Their vast collective experience covers the full breadth of degree programmes we offer.
In some cases the membership includes our own alumni, keen to give back and further improve the course based on first-hand experiences.
Some members represent recruitment teams across a diverse range engineering sectors with an interest in shaping the next generation of engineers. Others, representing national engineering bodies, have made a staunch commitment to the engineering profession and look to feed back their invaluable experience to our educators, to help maximise the effectiveness of our future engineers.
We're constantly looking to maximise the relevance of the learning experience we offer and refresh the Industrial Advisory Board's membership, so if you're interested in contributing please contact us.
Industrial placements
Our Department has close links to industry and offers numerous opportunities for employer-student engagement in the form of industrial placements.
We encourage your organisation to get in touch with us with your interest in exploring these opportunities.
