Undergraduate courses

Study an engineering degree accredited by the top professional institutions, in the world's first industrial city.

Every year, we continue our engineering heritage with a wide spectrum of innovative courses developed alongside our industrial partners - ensuring excellent employability prospects.

Over the course of your three-year BEng or four-year MEng course, you'll progress from studying engineering theory to practising your new-found craft. Which path will you take? Start your exploration here.

Civil engineering

Civil engineers help to build a better world - from bridges to connect neighbouring communities, to piping clean water to those further away.

I like to think of Engineering as using science to solve problems.

Today, civilisation relies more than ever on inventive and resourceful engineers to design, build, and maintain the environment and infrastructure in which we live. Encompassing everything from roads, railways, and airports, to hospitals, shelter, and access to drinking water - it is this infrastructure which makes everyday life possible, and is constantly improving quality of life for more people.

Needed after earthquakes, droughts, and times of war, Civil Engineering graduates from The University of Manchester make a positive difference to populations near and far.

There is no telling where this qualification could take you!

Accreditations

All our Civil Engineering degrees are fully accredited.

Institution of Civil Engineers

Our degrees provide the academic base for Chartered Engineer Status (CEng), which renders you eligible for the European Ingenieur (EUR ING). BEng(Hons) graduates will need further learning equivalent to BEng with MSc or MEng level, plus professional review to achieve Chartered Status.

BEng or MEng, industrial experience or management, foundation year or straight into first year - there are many things to consider when choosing the right route for you, so let us help you.

Flexible options

Our courses have a largely common first and second year, giving you the flexibility to transfer to your chosen course up to the end of Year 2, when you are better informed about the pathways and have a deeper understanding of each specialisation.

Foundation year

Prepare for the degree course with direct entry by undertaking our foundation year first. The perfect option for students currently without the correlating qualifications.

Enterprise courses

In every year of this programme there are units delivered by the Manchester Business School, so alongside your sound engineering background you develop a grounding in business, finance and entrepreneurship.
